Oregon Governor Tina Kotek surprised everyone with an announcement to call for a special Legislative Session on December 12th.   Oregon Governor Kotek’s Special Session is designed to authorize spending nearly a quarter billion ($218 million) on wildfire spending.

The Legislature should use this opportunity to host a hearing on the evolving election scandal where it was just discovered that 54,600 Oregonians were registered to vote without proving citizenship.  This violates Federal law for Federal candidates.

This list is so large that it calls into question the election results of countless races of the 2024 General Election.  As we speak, House District #22 hangs in the balance between 149 votes.  Having 54,600 questionable votes represents over 900 questionable voters for every House District in Oregon on average.

Lawmakers should also allocate immediate funding to review all 54,600 unverified voters, so that there is no illegal voting on upcoming elections.  If Kotek can conjure up $218 million from two state agencies at the last moment, surely she can conjure up a few million more to fund auditors to properly verify our voter rolls.   People who falsely claimed they were a citizen when they were not face a felony punishable by up to five years in prison and also a fine of up to $125,000, showing how serious of a crime this is.

Oregon needs to correct this in the interest of the voters in question, for election offices, for any candidates who have been cheated of a fair election, for the trust in our elections and for accountability for potentially one of the biggest election scandals in the entire nation.
