Josephine County Election Results: May 2024

Voter turnout in Josephine County was 39.98%, with 27,913 ballots counted out of 69,824 active registered voters.

Voter turnout by party was 52.76% for Republicans, 24.74% for Democrats and 22.49% for NAV/Other.

Ballot Measures

Measure 17-116: Replaces Josephine County Charter

  • Yes: 8,640 votes, 32.65%
  • No: 17,821 votes, 67.35%

The proposed county charter would have increased the number of commissioners from three to five, changed the positions to part-time at lower salary and mandated the hiring of a county manager.

Measure 17-117: Animal Shelter and Animal Control

  • Yes.: 10,586 votes, 40.08%
  • No: 15,827 votes, 59.92%

This measure would have added staff and remodeled and expanded the animal shelter and been paid for with a 5-year property tax levy of 47 cents per $1,000 assessed value.

Measure 17-118: Three Rivers School District $39 million school bond

  • Yes: 5,224 votes, 32.03%
  • No: 11,085 votes, 67.97%

The proposed $39 million school bond would have replaced roofs on 18 school facilities and improve security. The improvements would have been paid for with a 15-year property tax levy at 55 cents per $1,000 assessed value.

County Commissioner Position 2

  • Chris Barnett: 11,078 votes, 45.29%
  • Colene Martin: 5,797 votes, 23.70%
  • Mark Jones: 4,392 votes, 17.96%
  • Dan Mancuso: 3,142 votes, 12.85%

No candidate received 50% plus 1 vote, so Barnett and Martin will compete in a run-off election in November.

County Commissioner Position 3

  • Pat Fahey: 9,364 votes, 38.42%
  • Ron Smith: 6,424 votes, 26.36%
  • Nathan Gonzales: 5,587 votes, 22.92%
  • Russell McAlmond: 2,950 votes, 12.10%

No candidate received 50% plus 1 vote, so Fahey and Smith will compete in a run-off in November.

Other Elections

District Attorney Joshua Eastman, County Assessor Chris Parton and County Surveyor Peter Allen ran unopposed and won their respective races.

State Representative District 3

Republican Rep. Dwayne Yunker ran unopposed in his Republican primary. He received 7,598 votes and will face Democrat Mark Seligman (2,449 votes) in the November general election. Seligman defeated Dustin Watkins who received 1,457 votes in the Democratic primary.
